Since 2015, Englefield House and the wider Estate have been used as a location for the multi-award-winning series The Crown. Englefield House doubles as Sandringham for the Netflix drama but scenes have also been shot in our Garden and grounds.
Shoots have ranged in length from one day to as long as three weeks and we have accommodated in excess of 200 crew, 150 extras and up to 50 technical and service vehicles at any one time. The production team has also utilised rooms in Englefield House as ‘green rooms’ for the cast and members of the community have been drafted in as extras for some of the scenes.
The Crown Locations Manager, Pat Karam commented: “The dimensions of Englefield House are just fantastic, which allows a lot of flexibility for the directors and cinematographers to play with angles and lights. This is especially important as we return to it again and again, so it gives us a lot of choice, ensuring the look of the show remains fresh and exciting as a viewer.”
The House plays a key role in many prominent episodes in the series, as well as the acres of woodlands and gardens providing a backdrop in many scenes. We have a strong duty of care to the House, but the team at Englefield are really open to suggestions and will do their best to make it work for us. We have an excellent relationship with the home, and I hope they feel that too.”
