The Englefield Flower Show and School Fete is taking place at 2.30pm on Saturday, July 14th at the Englefield Primary School playing field, while a family open day is being held at the village’s Five A Day Market Garden between 1.30pm and 4.30pm.
Entries are being taken for the annual Englefield Flower Show across a number of categories including flowers, vegetables and floral art while the household goods category includes chutneys, jams, cakes and handicrafts. There are also classes for photography, art and children’s creative and handwriting skills.
Entries for the show are 50 pence before July 6th and £1 thereafter and should be submitted by midday on Friday, July 13th, delivered to Englefield Stores and Tea Rooms or emailed to efsentry@gmail.com.
Five A Day’s annual open day is an opportunity for people to visit the garden, which is located in the heart of the village, and find out more about its many social enterprise projects.
In addition to exploring the beautiful two-acre garden, leased to the group by the Englefield Estate, there will be various family-orientated activities taking place at the annual open day including pond dipping and wildlife games.
Entertainment will be provided by clarinet trio No Strings Attached, and there will be fresh produce and refreshments for sale.
There is a suggested donation of £1 and free parking is available, with proceeds from the open day going towards subsidising the market garden’s courses which promote inclusion and help tackle social isolation.
Five A Day’s project coordinator Yvonne Redgrave, said: “Prospective volunteers with an interest in gardens or growing sustainably are welcome to contact us at any time to find out how to get involved.
“Our annual open day is a chance for us to welcome the community to the garden and raise awareness about what we do. It’s an event we very much look forward to.”
