Englefield House will star once again in the much anticipated second series of the lavish Netflix-original drama The Crown. The show, which chronicles the life of Queen Elizabeth II and has enjoyed critical acclaim across the globe, will launch on Netflix on the 8th December.
The House is used as the location for Sandringham, the Royal family’s country retreat. The fact that Englefield House is still used as a family home today means that it brings a warmth and homeliness, which makes it an ideal location for Sandringham.
Locations Manager on The Crown, Pat Karam said: “The dimensions of Englefield House are just fantastic, which allows a lot of flexibility for the directors and cinematographers to play with angles and lights. This is especially important as we return to it again and again, so it gives us a lot of choice, ensuring the look of the show remains fresh and exciting as a viewer.”
The House plays a key role in many prominent and scenes in the multi-award-winning series, as well as the acres of woodlands and gardens providing a backdrop in many episodes.
Pat Karam continued: “We have a strong duty of care to the house, but they are really open to suggestions and will do their best to make it work for us. We have an excellent relationship with the home, and I hope they feel that too.”

“Englefield House is an ideal filming location, with high ceilings, big windows and striking original features. Add to that the extensive woodlands and gardens and you have a full film set in one place. We’re also in a great location being just 50 miles from London, making it easy for production teams to get here.”
Englefield House has also been the location of choice for many an award-winning production, including X:Men First Class and The King’s Speech.
The second series of The Crown will premiere on Netflix on December 8
