Every year the Ufton Court Educational Trust, which is located within the Englefield Estate, supports thousands of children through inspirational outdoor learning activities.
This month, the hard work of the charity’s managing director Fiona Craig, has been recognised in a national awards scheme.
Fiona was shortlisted in the advocate category of the Awards for Outstanding Contribution to Learning Outside the Classroom, which recognise those who have had a significant impact on the lives of children and young people, through providing learning opportunities outside the classroom.
The Estate is proud to support the work of the charity, which each year, through residential and day visits, welcomes thousands of children who are at risk of disengaging with education, or face challenges at school due to special educational needs or disability. In 2016, Ufton Court welcomed more than 10,000 children.
Fiona’s nomination is recognition of the role she plays in raising the aspirations of all children. Her work ranges from developing specialised programmes and raising funds, to commissioning research into the benefits of regular outdoor learning.
Fiona described being shortlisted as “humbling”. “Learning outside of the classroom can play a significant role in the development of young people and is something I’m deeply passionate about,” she added.
“It’s great to see so many fantastic initiatives celebrated in these awards and I look forward to seeing momentum grow even more for the role we can play in mainstream education.”
